There are so many different options available when it comes to sorting out your camping gear – in particular when it comes time to choose your camp cooking gear! If your idea of camp cooking is burning snags over open flames, then we’ve got excellent news for you – it really is so easy to eat like a King when you’re camping – especially if you buy your camping gear and camp cooking gear at 4WD Supacentre!

Whether you’re just starting out setting up your camping and cooking gear, or you’re looking to add new campfire cooking gear to your camping gear kit, here’s a guide to the different types of camp cooking products you can carry with you, and some considerations to keep in mind.

  1. COOKING OVER A CAMPFIRE

We love cooking over a campfire because it’s so easy, and because all you need is a bit of firewood to get started! Campfire cooking gear can be as simple as a campfire BBQ plate – a strong cast-iron plate with pivoting legs that sits over the top of the fire and provides a large flat top to cook your food on. From there you can step up your camp cooking gear to a swing-style campfire BBQ plate setup, with a central pivoting pole and a set of hotplates that swing on and off the fire, letting you add or remove your food from the heat nice and easily. And of course one of the best and most traditional ways when it comes to campfire cooking is the mighty camp oven! Just get your fire going to the point where the coals are nice and hot, and you can then whip up a campfire cooking storm by adding your favourite meats and vegetables straight into the camp oven.

While camp cooking over an open fire is one of the simplest camp cooking methods, the downside is that it’s sometimes a little difficult to regulate the heat produced by the fire. You also have the smoke of the fire to contend with which can be a pain sometimes as well. However one trick we’ve learned over the years to make for better campfire cooking is to create a separate smaller campfire next to your large heat campfire – this will improve your camp cooking experience in both of these aspects!

  1. GAS BBQ COOKING

The other type of camping cooking gear you can carry is a gas powered camping BBQ. These clever portable camping BBQs like the Voyager Portable BBQ run off a standard BBQ bottle, and give you very precise control over the heat that they put out, so that you can cook your food to perfection. The other major benefit to a portable gas BBQ for camping over campfire BBQ cooking is that you don’t have the smoke of the campfire to contend with! However the one major consideration when using a portable camping BBQ is that you’ll need to obviously carry your gas bottle with you, and for safety reasons it must never be stored inside your vehicle while travelling – meaning you need to strap it to your roofrack.

Whichever method of camp cooking gear you decide is right for you, you can be certain of one thing. When you buy your camping gear and camp cooking gear from 4WD Supacentre you’ll be getting high quality camp cooking gear at an extremely low price!
