Let’s take a look at stepping up – literally – to a rooftop tent! Now I’ll say from the outset, that I’ve done heaps of camping in all types of camping accomodation, and my favourite way to camp is definitely a rooftop tent. Here’s what I love about them, plus a look at the three different rooftop tents we offer here at Adventure Kings

Advantages to rooftop tents are:

–              Just how quick they are to setup! There are a couple of different styles of roof-top tents, with the quickest setting up in under 30 seconds, and even the fold-out style tents taking only a couple of minutes max. When you’ve pulled up to a beautiful campsite and just want to get the fire going, kick back and take it all in, you’ll be happy that you’re in a rooftop tent.

–              With a rooftop tent, the mattress and your bedding is generally stored inside the rooftop tent. That not only speeds up the setup process because it means not having to make your bed once the roof top tent is setup, but it does also free up substantial room within your vehicle while you’re travelling

–              For those who don’t love the thought of creepy-crawlies, it can definitely be comforting to know that you’re up off the ground and away from them in a 4WD roof top tent!

–              On hot or cold nights, being away from the ground lets you avoid the worst of the heat or the cold. When it’s hot, you’ll often find a beautiful breeze blowing up through your rooftop tent that you wouldn’t experience on the ground!

–              And finally – I reckon there’s nothing like the view you get from your camping rooftop tent – waking up to views like this just can’t be beat!

For those campers looking to take their camping experience to a whole new level – literally! – we offer three different styles of rooftop tent. These are mounted to the roofracks of the camper’s vehicle and are a fully enclosed and waterproof tent with an internal mattress that sets up extremely quickly.

The first in this lineup is the fold-out Tourer rooftop tent. This clever design folds out to the side or rear of the vehicle to reveal a huge internal space with a bed 1300mm wide by 2500mm long, with an ultra-comfy 75mm thick high-density foam mattress. The four man annex adds room for two people downstairs plus two upstairs, and the six man annex has enough room for four downstairs plus the two upstairs! Whether it’s extra camping accommodation room for the kids, or just somewhere private to get changed, or eat or relax out of the elements, these are extremely popular upgrades for the Tourer rooftop tent.

The Kwiky Mark II hard-shell rooftop tent takes what everyone loves about rooftop tents, and makes it even quicker! It practically sets itself up thanks to the internal gas struts – just undo the straps, give it a small lift and let the struts take over. Inside you’ll find a sleeping area 2080mm long by 1100mm wide with 930mm of head height, as well as a 50mm high density foam mattress. It includes a 2.3m long alloy telescopic ladder, as well as tension poles that turn the outer canvas doors on either side into awnings over the mozzie-proof mesh. Add in mesh and canvas head and foot windows and you’ve got a fantastic rooftop tent option for solo campers or couples!

By far our very best rooftop tent however, is the incredible Grand Tourer MkII Aluminium Rooftop Tent. This rooftop tent features a clever rear-opening design, with a simply massive 2285mm long, 1400mm wide, 75mmthick high-density foam mattress. It has a clever three-sided wrap-around awning that sets up with the included tension poles and insulation underneath the marine-carpeted floor and ceiling, but the best part is when it’s closed, it has 130mm of internal space between the mattress and the ceiling. That means you can leave your pillows, sleeping bags and even clothes in the Grand Tourer while you’re travelling! It includes a telescopic 2.3metre long alloy ladder plus an internal storage pocket that attaches to the ceiling carpet. This is an incredible rooftop tent  that will provide you with simply incredible camping experiences.
