Here at Adventure Kings, we have a bloody sweet gig. We get to play with all sorts of camping gear – both the full range of Adventure Kings camping gear, plus lots of products in the research and development phase, well before they ever officially start to be offered at Australia’s favourite camping store. I’ve been spoilt for choice for years when it comes to choosing what camping gear to take away with me on my own personal adventures – whether it’s a rooftop tent, a new camping fridge or even camping solar panels. But you know the funny thing? Even after all these years I still get so excited about camping in my deluxe swag!

It’s a funny thing. I don’t even really know what causes it, but there’s a awesome feeling I get everytime I pull my Big Daddy swag out of the garage and open it up to check it is ready to go camping in on an upcoming camping adventure. I’ve spent so many nights in my Kings swag and a big part of how excited I get is probably a lot to do with the fact that I know I have an awesome night’s sleep ahead of me. Whether that’s because the deluxe camping swag is so comfy, or just the fact I know I’m going to have a couple of coldies around the campfire with my mates, I’m not sure!

I think I love camping in a swag so much because it’s so easy. There’s just no hassles or headaches to it – just roll your double swag out on the ground, add the end poles and the centre pole, peg down the two ropes and you’re set! Packing up your swag is so easy too – it’s literally just the reverse of the setup procedure.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my rooftop tent, and in fact I have a Kings Grand Tourer rooftop tent that I use as often as possible too. But I just love the simplicity of a swag – and how Aussie it is camping in your double swag! Especially out in real red dirt country – nothing beats rolling out your swag on the red dirt and getting a fire going with some good dry hardwood, then settling back to do a bit of navel gazing!

I also love just how easy it is to transport my double swag to and from the campsite – half the time I just chuck it in the back of the 4WD and head away, the other half of the time I strap my Big Daddy double swag to the roofrack with a couple of ratchet straps and head bush. And because I use one of the oversized canvas swag bags to store my Big Daddy Deluxe swag in, I’m able to leave all of my bedding in the swag when I roll it up – that means two premium sleeping bags, of course my bedsheets and four nice comfy pillows. Yeah you can go ‘rough it’ all you want, I reckon I’ll have the sleep of my life in my double swag thank you very much!

And when all my mates are struggling to set up their fancy pants over-priced tents, I’ve got my swag setup and ready to go in a couple of minutes. That leaves more time for the really important things, like checking that the lemonades in my camping fridge are at the perfect temperature.

It’s hard to beat how dark you can make it inside your Kings double swag too! Look, sometimes I like getting up early and getting the fire going, and other times I really like laying in bed and having a sleep-in for a couple of hours. And with both sides of the Big Daddy Deluxe swag zipped right up, it’s so dark in there that you honestly would struggle to tell the difference between 4am and 9am until you open the zipper. In other words, that’s the idea setup!

But that’s not to say that camping is the only time that your deluxe swag comes in handy. In fact I reckon for every 2 nights that I’ve spent out camping in my big daddy swag, I have spent a night in the same swag in my mates’ backyards! You know the drill – you drop over to a mate’s place after work on a Friday night, one beer leads to four and watching the footy, and then you aren’t going anywhere. Instead, rolling out your swag in the backyard is the perfect solution – as long as you’ve got it in the back of your 4WD!

I’ve done all sorts of camping over the years – swag, rooftop tent, camper trailer, tent, the works. I keep coming back time and time again to the Big Daddy Deluxe because it’s so comfortable, so quick to setup and fantastic in any type of weather!

I even spent almost a month straight sleeping in my Deluxe double swag down in Tassie, setting up and packing up every day, moving from campsite to campsite. Ya know what I love the most? It is never a chore to set it up or pack it away. I’d set out the 3×3 Mesh Floor, roll out the swag and set it up, and put my 3x3m gazebo across the top, and I’d be set.

The whole setup barely takes more than five minutes from start to finish, is perfect for any type of weather, and it’s hassle free – exactly what I love. I had a shoulder reconstruction years ago, and for a long time I found it hard to get a good night’s sleep when I was camping.

The Big Daddy Deluxe with its 70mm-thick mattress changed all that – and now I sleep like a log when I’m camping! I reckon I’ve spent over 200 nights in my Big Daddy Deluxe, and I always get so excited when I know I’m going to camp in it, because I love it that much!
